The Rough Guide

The coloring of The Rough Guide (De Ruwe Gids) received an award for ‘best production of 2008’ and ‘best graphic novel of 2008’ by Het Stripschap, the Dutch Comic Strip fans’ official union.
The novel is a graphic satire situated in a small Mediterranean country. The story illustrates the fatal effect of unspoken words and unexpressed feelings, so for the coloring is was important to translate the corresponding emotions. I used ecoline stains as backgrounds and used computer enhancement to get these feelings across.
